Narrative Description of Project
The project aims to help MOMRA in coordinating between urban planning and transport planning in all the cities of the Kingdom. The consultant has 3 case study cities to execute a comprehensive transport planning exercise in. MOMRA chose Umluj ~ 50,000 people as the small sized city, Unayzah ~ 300,000 as the medium sized city, and the cities of Abha & Khamis Mushait were chosen together ~ 1.3 million people as one large city.
Each of the cities above was visited and had extensive transport surveys conducted in them. Traffic counts, turning movement counts, road-side interviews, travel time measurements and street inventory were done in all cities with the ultimate aim of building a transport model that accurately replicates the travel patterns in each of them.
The models are to be used in order to decide on short term action plans, and future development of the transport networks if needed, keeping in mind the urban growth plans of each of the cities. The Consultant’s system will help guide MOMRA on how to plan transport for all other Saudi cities, depending on their size.
