Case Study

Planning, Design and Supervision of Road Rehabilitation and Maintenance in Beqaa Gharbi and Rachaya

Narrative Description
of Project

The project involved road maintenance and rehabilitation of 320 km of the classified road network in Beqaa Gharbi and Rachaya regions. Total cost USD 27.9 million.

Description of Actual Services Provided

The services involved detailed inventory of the network to identify the condition of each link with the type of corrective treatment needed on it. Cost estimates of urgent repair work were calculated on a Km-by-Km basis for each link. Criteria were set to prioritize the work subject to budget constraints.

Some sections required widening and/or major reconstruction. These sections were surveyed and designed.

Field supervision covered all works performed by contractors. Works included earthwork, drainage structures, retaining walls, pavement construction, and asphalt overlays. Projects supervised covered simultaneous work spread over a wide area benefiting from the dry weather during the interval from May to September of each year.
