Preparation of Designs and Tender Documents for Implementing Traffic Systems Management Measures Proposed for the Greater Beirut Transportation Immediate Action Plan.

Description of Actual Services Provided

The Traffic System Measures, included in the “Transportation Immediate Action Plan” for Greater Beirut comprise spot improvements, introduction of traffic control, and optimization of the use of the existing network. These measures should be ready to implement without the need to acquire additional right-of-way. This project involved translating these measures into designs and tender documents for execution.

The network covered by this project included 200 Km of major thoroughfares and streets. The project included the implementation of the following plans and facilities:
– A revised circulation plan.
– Geometric design improvements on intersections.
– Equipping of about 220 intersections with traffic signals.
– A complete marking and signing plan.
– Grade separations (steel overpasses) at some critical intersections in the suburbs where an acceptable level of service cannot be achieved utilizing traffic signals. These steel overpasses are considered as short-term solutions awaiting the completion of the périphérique and the Beirut Entrances and Penetrators projects.

The designs are to be included in several tender packages. Responsibility of TEAM includes also construction supervision
