Design and Supervision of Grade Separations at Critical Intersections in the Greater Beirut Area

Narrative Description
of Project

An extension of scope was made on the contract for Designs and Tender Documents for Implementing Traffic Systems Management Measures proposed for the Greater Beirut Transporta­tion Immediate Action Plan, to include the design of grade sepa­rations at two congested intersections:

  1. Boulevard Chiahs intersection with Blvd. Camille Chamoun at Galerie Semaan
  2. Hayek Roundabout.

Grade separations at both locations consist of post-tensioned concrete bridges. The scope of work includes improvement of the intersections at-grade, their signalization, lighting, landscaping, and road  improvements in the vicinity.

Description of Actual Services Provided

Complete geometric and structural design of 3 post-tensioned box-girder bridges, the improvement of the intersection at-grade, signing, marking, traffic signals, landscaping and detour plans during construction. Preparation of complete construction drawings, technical specifications, bills of quantities, bid documents, and fair-cost estimates.

Expropriation plans and decrees were prepared.

Supervision services were not requested since the two grade-separations are still awaiting execution part of UTDP.
