Technical Assistance, Construction Supervision, & Control of the South Motorway Jiyeh-Zahrani Section – Phase I

1. Two sections of motorways totaling about 14 km, composed of 3 lanes in each direction, with service roads on both sides. The project extends from Jiyeh to Zahrani excluding the part within Saida.
2. Two large viaducts, one at Jadra and another at Zahrani.
3. Eighteen grade separations, and several hydraulic structures.

Several interchanges.
Highlights of the project included:

1.  Jadra Bridge: A 200 meter bridge, 15.6 m wide for each roadway bridge is constituted of a central span: 65 m long, 22 m high arch, with two 26 m spans on one side of the central arch and three 26 m spans on the other. The super structure is composed of precast posttensioned beams of 13 m over the central arch, and 26 m at both ends. The super – structure is carried on by huge piers reaching 30 m high.
2. Zahrani Bridge: A 70 m long bridge, 14 m wide for each roadway, with 4 spans of 15 and 19 m. the super – structure is constituted of precast beams resting on piers supported by 120 cm diameter reinforced concrete piles reaching a depth of 30 m.
3.  Eleven overpasses.
4. Seven underpasses.
5. Ten multiple box culverts of various sizes.
6. Concrete works totaling about 92 thousand m³.
7. Earthworks totaling 2.2 million m³.
8. Asphaltic concrete pavement works for all roadways.
9. Drainage and utilities.
   The total value of supervised works amounted to USD 47 million, the motorway was put into service in mid 2000 and the total supervision fees reached 864 thousand USD.
