Narrative Description of Project
The study involves a pre-feasibility study for establishing a network of logistic platforms, at least one in each of the countries of the Southern Mediterranean connected through EDI with similar in the Northern MEDA region, with the purpose of improving the flow of goods and improving trade efficiency.
Description of Actual Services Provided
The services started with a desk study which involved acquisition of trade data and information on logistic services and governing rules and regulations. This was followed by visits to each of the countries by a team of multi-disciplinary experts who met with government officials, private sector firms providing freight and logistic services. Site visits were also made to ports, railroad, and logistic facilities. Existing logistic platforms were visited. Sites for possible development as logistic platforms were assessed. Potentially feasible projects will be subjected to economic and financial evaluations. Promising projects stand to receive a financing support from EIB up to 50% of the initial investment.
